In late May 2001, the sudden death of prominent cardiologist David Stephens was beginning to look suspicious. A routine post-mortem blood test had revealed high-levels of a powerful anesthetic, Etomidate in Stephen's system. Authorities approached his second wife Stephanie with questions. When she told authorities that she was not familiar with the drug, immediately they became suspicious. Before marrying Dr. Stephens, Stephanie worked as a surgical nurse. Detectives found it hard to believe that she had never heard of the anesthetic before.
